A lot of people today have been asking about my exclusion from the squad for the qualifiers. Coach Weiss and I have been in converstaions for the past few weeks about having me attend training camp in Germany prior to the Sri Lanka game. However, with it being mid-season here in the US and my playing and work commitments, the dates given weren’t feasible so I reluctantly declined the opportunity to join the team.
Coach Weiss and I spoke on the phone for a while and I asked to come out just for the games as I felt I have proved myself over the past 6 years (especially in recent games) to warrant some flexibility in allowing me to join the team late. However, he felt it was important that I integrate with what is a new squad and had to be in Germany. While I was dissappointed with this decision, I understood his reasons and have to accept it as he is the coach.
He did not close the door on me playing in the future and we discussed ways in which this could work- with the Kuwait fixture (should we beat Sri Lanka) seemingly a possibility. I appreciated the time he took to speak to me and hopefully it won’t be too long before I don the National Team jersey again.
I wish the guys every success and I will be our biggest supporter in the forthcoming games.
